• <br />just inside the entrance to the library. New media items are displayed in the <br />media department. <br />One of the secondary roles is the "preschoolers' door to learning." The <br />library encourages preschoolers to develop an interest in reading and <br />learning by providing services for children and for parents and children. The <br />library promotes reading readiness from infancy. Programs are offered <br />weekly for these age groups and their parents: babies, toddlers, <br />preschoolers, day cares, and grade school children. Knowledgeable staff is <br />available to assist with patron's needs. We also offer the "Born To Read" <br />program of service. <br />The children's collection includes materials for the home schoolers, <br />curriculum enrichment, adult basic education, recreational, educational, <br />magazines, audio visual, online resources and Internet. Board books, picture <br />books, easy books, paperbacks, read -a -longs, computer games, puppets, <br />fiction and nonfiction books are available. <br />The "formal education center" is another secondary role. The library assists <br />students of all ages in meeting educational objectives established during <br />their formal course of study. Assistance and materials are available for <br />elementary and secondary students, college and technical school students, <br />adult basic education and adult literacy students. Research and computer <br />classes are taught for each type of student and for every level. The library <br />has informal agreements with Indian River Community College, Webster <br />Business College, and Flight Safety. <br />The library is also considered a "community activities and information <br />center." The library provides both meeting room space and equipment for <br />community, governmental, and library related and library sponsored <br />programs. Meeting rooms available for public use are: 1 large multimedia <br />room, 2 conference rooms, a 40 seat meeting room, 1 classroom, and 6 <br />study/typing rooms. <br />The library maintains a high profile as a clearinghouse for current <br />community information. The Information & Referral database is available <br />for downloading. The Genealogical Society has indexed the local newspaper <br />and obituaries.
