RESOLUTION NO. 2017-105 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br /> COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, <br /> SUPPORTING THE $14.8 MILLION CAPITAL OUTLAY <br /> REQUEST OF INDIAN RIVER STATE COLLEGE FOR THE <br /> TREASURE COAST ADVANCED MANUFACTURING CENTER. <br /> WHEREAS, serving as the primary workforce training and technical service provider for Indian <br /> River County, Indian River State College is ideally positioned to grow manufacturing and trade <br /> industries on the Treasure Coast; and <br /> WHEREAS, over the past two years, Indian River State College has committed $2 million in <br /> private funding and received $6.5 million in legislative appropriations from the State of Florida toward <br /> a $23.3 million state-of-the-art Treasure Coast Advanced Manufacturing Center; and <br /> WHEREAS, while the region is most appreciative of this public support, this critically important <br /> facility is $14.8 million short of breaking ground; and <br /> WHEREAS, a 2017 Treasure Coast Skills Gap Study completed by the EDC of St. Lucie <br /> County, Gehant & Associates, and in collaboration with business and educational leaders across <br /> Okeechobee & the Treasure Coast, identifies the planned Indian River State College Treasure Coast <br /> Advanced Manufacturing Center as a vital resource for filling many of the high demand jobs in trades <br /> and manufacturing; and <br /> WHEREAS, our community is well aware of EMS! and Department of Economic Opportunity <br /> (DEO) employment projections substantiating the growing, high-wage employment opportunities in <br /> sustainable building construction, smart manufacturing, automotive technology, HVAC, metal <br /> fabrication and specialized trades; and <br /> WHEREAS, a modernized industrial skills facility is the most promising means to address <br /> these present and future needs; and <br /> WHEREAS, supporting the request of Indian River State College will result in a strong return <br /> on investment of public funds, offering new opportunities for citizens to gain quick, affordable training <br /> in fields with extensive openings; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA THAT: <br /> 1. The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County fully supports the $14.8 million <br /> capital outlay request of Indian River State College for the Treasure Coast Advanced <br /> Manufacturing Center and its far-reaching implications for economic and workforce <br /> development <br /> 1 <br />
