I <br />BOOK 87 PA.rA5 <br />Vice Chairman Bowman issued the following Proclamation: <br />P R O C L A M A T I O N <br />DESIGNATING SEPTEMBER 27 - OCTOBER 4, 1992 <br />AS RED RIBBON AIDS AWARENESS WEEK <br />WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of. Florida state and local <br />health officials to take action to prevent disease, promote <br />health and protect our residents; and <br />WHEREAS, Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS)•continues <br />to pose a major threat to our health and economic well-being; and <br />WHEREAS, over 21,491 Floridians have already been diagnosed <br />with AIDS, over 65% have already died and 150,000 more are likely <br />to be infected with the virus; and <br />WHEREAS, an additional 3,200 Floridians are predicted by the <br />Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitation Services to be <br />diagnosed with AIDS by the end of this year, 1992; and <br />WHEREAS, Floridians of all ages, races, religions and sexual <br />orientations may be among these cases; and <br />WHEREAS, with sufficient AIDS education and adherence to <br />basic prevention guidelines, no Floridian must contact this <br />disease from this point on; and <br />WHEREAS, the organization that services Indian River County <br />is the Treasure Coast Community AIDS Network (TCCAN) and they <br />provide quality service for people affected with HIV and is <br />dedicated to stopping the transmission of HIV disease. TCCAN <br />provides direct services, education and advocacy for men, women <br />and children living with HIV disease; and <br />WHEREAS, TCCAN has been designated by the HRS District IX <br />HIV/AIDS Consortia as the provider of all case management efforts <br />for the four northern counties in District IX. TCCAN delivers <br />services linking available community support' services to <br />appropriate specialized medical services; and <br />WHEREAS, TCCAN is conducting a major fundraiser entitled, <br />"FISH FOR THE FIGHT." This bass fishing tournament will be held <br />October 3 and 4, 1992 at Okeetantie Park, Okeechobee, Florida: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLA3ME'D BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week of <br />September 27 - October 4, 1992 be designated as <br />RED RIBBON AIDS AWARENESS WEEK <br />in Indian River County.
