INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />MEMORANDUM <br />?Pi <br />TO: Jason Brown; County Administrator <br />THROUGH: Stan Boling, AICP; Community Development Director <br />THROUGH: Phil Matson, AICP; MPO Staff Director <br />Rich Szpyrka, P.E.; Public Works Director <br />FROM: Andy Sobczak, Senior Transportation Planner <br />DATE: August 28, 2017 <br />SUBJECT: Resolution of Support for Application to the Florida Highway Beautification <br />Council for a Highway Beautification Grant for South US Highway 1 in Indian <br />River County <br />It is requested that the information herein presented be given formal consideration by the Board of <br />County Commissioners at its regular meeting of September 12, 2017. <br />DESCRIPTION & CONDITIONS <br />On February 7, 2017, the Board of County Commissioners approved a work order authorizing <br />Kimley-Horn & Associates, Inc. to design a landscape plan and welcome sign for a section of US <br />Highway 1 in the southern portion of the county. While design on the landscape plan and welcome <br />sign are underway, preparations are being made for submission to the Florida Highway <br />Beautification Council for a Highway Beautification Grant to assist in implementing the <br />landscaping portion of the project. <br />Each year in October, the Florida Highway Beautification Council accepts grant applications for <br />Highway Beautification projects. The Beautification Grant is a state-wide competitive grant with <br />10 annual awards of $82,067.90. As part of the eligibility requirements for the Beautification <br />Grant, a Resolution authorizing the Public Works Director to apply for and accept a Beautification <br />Grant, as well as enter into a Highway Beautification Grant, Landscape Construction, and <br />Maintenance Memorandum of Agreement between Indian River County and the Florida <br />Department of Transportation, must be approved by the BCC. As such, the attached Resolution of <br />Support for the grant must be approved prior to submission of the grant application. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the BCC approve the Resolution of Support for application to the Florida <br />Highway Beautification Council for a Highway Beautification Grant. <br />1 <br />P207 <br />
