�If> I*SrARCHOCOA51 EMPLOYMENT REPORT <br />September 15, 2017 <br />The unemployment rate in the CareerSource Research Coast region (Indian River, Martin, <br />and St. Lucie counties) was 4.9 % in August 2017. This rate was 1.2 percentage point lower than the region's year ago <br />rate of 6.1 %. The labor force was 273,499, up 6,055 over the year. <br />There were 13,439 unemployed residents in the region. <br />UNEMPLOYMENT RATE <br />Research <br />Coast----,, <br />The majority of the nonagricultural employment in the CareerSource Research Coast region was in the Port St. Lucie metro area. <br />This metro area accounted for 145,600 jobs in August 2017, an increase of 3,800 jobs from August 2016 2.7%. <br />The Port St. Lucie MSA had the second fastest annual job growth rate compared to all <br />the metro areas in the state in manufacturing at 15.9%, with 1000 jobs in August 2017. <br />In August 2017 nonagricultural employment in the Sebastian -Vero Beach MSA was 51,300, an increase of 1,600 jobs over the year. <br />The Sebastian -Vero Beach MSA had the fastest annual job growth rate compared to all the metro areas in the state in education <br />and health services at 6.3% in August 2017. <br />INDUSTRY SECTORS WITH THE LARGEST JOB GAINS <br />AUGUST JOB GAINS <br />1000 <br />j] Edu/Health Svcs 13 Trade, Transportation & Uti., (] Manufacturing ❑ Leisure & Hospitality <br />Mining.
