Board of County Commissioners Meeting Minutes - Final November 14, 2017 <br />Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller Jeffrey R. Smith highlighted numerous <br />responsibilities, including the internal audits of the Clerk's Office and the Board of <br />County Commissioners. He congratulated a member of his staff, Ed Halsey, who <br />recently became a Certified Internal Auditor, and applauded him for his diligence <br />regarding the quarterly increase of tourist taxes collected from hotels and <br />short-term rentals. Mr. Smith also informed the Board of a successful program <br />initiated with the State of Florida, which allowed for the sharing of tourist tax and <br />sales tax information, generating leads that resulted in tourist tax revenue. <br />Vice Chairman O'Bryan expressed gratitude towards Mr. Smith and Mr. Halsey for <br />keeping the finances clean and being good stewards of taxpayer dollars. <br />A motion was made by Vice Chairman O'Bryan, seconded by Commissioner Solari, to <br />accept the Fiscal Year 2017 Annual Report of the Internal Audit Division.
