NOW <br />Indian River County, Florida <br />Memorandum <br />TO: Jason Brown, County Administrator <br />THROUGH: Michael Smykowski, Director, OMB <br />FROM: Beth Martin, Risk Manager <br />DATE: January 4, 2018 <br />SUBJECT: Mediated Settlement: William Hall <br />Description <br />It is requested that the Board of County Commissioners consider the following mediated <br />workers' compensation settlement Consent Agenda item at their January 16, 2018 regular <br />meeting. <br />Background <br />On January 4, 2018 the County Administrator reviewed the $75,000.00 settlement of <br />recently retired former Deputy Sheriff William Hall's August 2, 2007 workers' <br />compensation claim and recommends approval of the settlement. <br />The proposed $75,000.00 includes his attorney's fees and costs, and precludes Mr. Hall <br />from using the County's group health insurance to pay any future costs associated with <br />his work injury. <br />Funding <br />Payment will be made from the Self Insurance Fund. <br />Staff Recommendation <br />In keeping with administrative policy, staff requests the Board approve the settlement in <br />the amount of $75,000.00, and authorize the County Administrator to execute any <br />documents necessary to effectuate the settlement, after review and approval by the <br />County Attorney. <br />If additional information is needed, please contact Beth Martin, Risk Manager, at <br />Extension 1287. <br />Approved for Agenda <br />January 16, 2018 <br />14 <br />
