Approval of Out -of -County Travel for Commissioner Macht to <br />Attend a Workshop on Environmentally Sensitive Land Conservation <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Adams, the Board unanimously authorized <br />out -of -county travel for Commissioner Macht and <br />Environmental Planning Chief Roland DeBlois to <br />attend a one -day workshop on environmentally <br />sensitive land conservation in Orlando, Florida on <br />March 4., 1993. <br />PUBLIC DISCUSSION - VISIONS REPORT <br />Eric Wetzig from the steering committee distributed copies of <br />a report on the Visions workshop held October 9-10, 1992, in which <br />about 150 County residents participated. Mr. Wetzig explained that <br />the first portion of the booklet provides a general overview and <br />the pages in the back provide detailed information in the form of <br />copies of actual flip chart comments made by participants. <br />Chairman Bird attended several of the preliminary sessions and <br />was impressed by the tremendous number of intelligent, dedicated <br />local people, representing a cross-section of the County, who <br />volunteered their time on a weekend to participate in the workshop. <br />He also praised County staff members for participating in the <br />workshop on their own time and was impressed with the extent of <br />staff's knowledge. <br />Mr. Wetzig related that it was apparent from comments in the <br />report that the participants felt the quality of employees of the <br />County as well as municipalities within the County is outstanding. <br />The uniform opinion was that the community is a place that has <br />dedicated ated public servants who care about the communitY, even though <br />g <br />citizens may agree ' <br />y gr a or disagree about individual decisions that are <br />made. However, the overall view is that there is a need for growth <br />and economic development. <br />Chairman Bird asked Mr. Wetzig if the workshops will be held <br />annually. Mr. Wetzig explained that the committee is eager to <br />schedule another workshop but before doing so, they would like the <br />Board . to review the report and make recommendations as to the focus <br />of the next workshop. The initial workshop was broad-based and <br />covered a lot of topics, and the committee would like to see the <br />next workshop cover one or two specific areas in depth. <br />Commissioner Tippin agreed that the next workshop should <br />concentrate on specific areas, and he indicated that there is <br />18 <br />
