MAR 9 199 1009 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, the Pelican Island Indian River County National <br />Wildlife Refuge was established on March 14, 1903 by Theodore <br />Roosevelt the 26th President of the United States of America to <br />protect the -nesting birds on Pelican Island; and <br />WHEREAS, this was the first wildlife refuge in the North <br />American system <br />which <br />now <br />numbers <br />over <br />500 <br />refuges; and <br />WHEREAS, <br />March <br />14, <br />1993 will <br />mark <br />the <br />90th Anniversary <br />of the establishment of this refuge, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it Proclaimed by the Board of <br />County Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida that <br />March 14, 1993 be designated as <br />PELICAN ISLAND DAY <br />in recognition of the beginning of a wildlife refuge system <br />which will serve to protect our native wildlife for generations to <br />come. <br />APPROVED and ADOPTED on March 9, 1993. <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />By <br />Richard N. There were <br />none. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Adams, the Board unanimously (4-0, <br />Commissioner Bird being delayed) approved the <br />Minutes of the Regular Meeting of 2/2/93, as <br />written. <br />4 <br />
