Assistant County Attorney Terry O'Brien advised that the <br />purpose of the ordinance is to charge the same amount for <br />occupational licenses for all businesses. <br />The Chairman opened the public hearing and asked if anyone <br />wished to be heard in this matter. There being none, he closed the <br />public hearing. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Tippin, to adopt Ordinance 93-14, <br />amending Chapter 207 Licensing and License Tax to <br />reduce certain taxes so that they shall be uniform <br />throughout the class, as recommended by staff. <br />Under discussion, Commissioner Macht asked if it would be <br />possible to change the name to "occupational fee" so that the <br />meaning would not be misconstrued. <br />Attorney O'Brien agreed that the word "license" is misleading. <br />Commissioner Eggert felt something stronger was needed that <br />would explain that this is a tax, not a license. <br />Attorney O'Brien indicated that staff would bring this to the <br />attention of Tax Collector Karl Zimmermann. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR THE QUESTION. <br />It was voted on and carried unanimously. <br />ORDINANCE 93- _ 14 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA AMENDING CHAPTER 207 LICENSING -AND <br />LICENSE TAX TO REDUCE CERTAIN TAXES SO <br />THAT THEY SHALL BE UNIFORM THROUGHOUT THE <br />CLASS. <br />WHEREAS, the County imposes an occupation license tax for <br />business operating in the County; and <br />WHEREAS, said tax is required to be based on reasonable <br />I classifications and uniform throughout any class; and <br />WHEREAS, upon review of the said tax it appears that certain tax <br />amounts should be adjusted downward, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, that: <br />75 <br />APR - 61993 Boa 89 FAGF?72 <br />
