FF -MAY 111993 <br />P R O C L A M A T I O N <br />HONORING AARP CHAPTER 1406 <br />ON ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY <br />��.� <br />t�ooK 89 Fr,,r6i -7 <br />WHEREAS, each chapter charted by AARP is established as a <br />not-for-profit corporation to represent the national Association <br />in its community; and <br />WHEREAS, in addition to the social benefits, members realize <br />a new sense of independence, purpose and dignity by contributing <br />their experience, talents and maturity in service to their <br />community; and. <br />WHEREAS, through chapter programs and activities, they give <br />visible witness to the motto of the AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF <br />RETIRED PERSONS: "To Serve - Not to be Served"; and <br />WHEREAS, the purposes and functions of an AARP Chapter are <br />to serve as an Instrument of community service and social change <br />in keeping with Association purposes; to provide a strong public <br />image of the Association in its local community, a means of <br />communication between ,members and the Association, and a source <br />of recruitment. and training of members and leaders; and to <br />provide opportunities for older persons in its community to <br />achieve their individual goals and meet their personal and social <br />needs; and <br />WHEREAS, the objectives of an AARP Chapter are to provide a <br />channel through which members can engage in community volunteer <br />service; to enable members to be active in fostering legislation; <br />to furnish th6 medium through which members can develop needed <br />community programs and activities; to give members an opportunity <br />to meet each other at the local level; to give members a deeper <br />understanding and appreciation of the total AARP program; to <br />provide a constant source of membership recruitment at the local <br />level; to give members an opportunity to participate in AARP <br />programs of national scope, such as Tax -aide, 55 -Alive Mature <br />Driving, Legislation, Criminal Justice, Health Advocacy, Travel, <br />Widowed Persons Service, Minorities Affairs, Women's Initiative, <br />Etc: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that May 17, 1993 is <br />the twentieth anniversary of Chapter 1406. The Board urges all <br />citizens of Indian River County to recognize and support AARP <br />Chapter 1406 for its service to the community. <br />Adopted this 11 day of May, 1993. <br />2 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Richard N.
