jUN 15 1993 <br />Bou 89 855 <br />BEACH AND SHORE PRESERVATION ADVISORY COXHITTEE REPORT <br />Commissioner Adams distributed copies of the following motions <br />made by the Beach and Shore Preservation Advisory Committee at <br />their most recent meeting: <br />MOTION was made by Bill Jordan, SECONDED by <br />Bruce Barkett, to approve recommen'ding that <br />the Board of County Commission consider <br />requesting the Tourist Development Council to <br />look into the possibility of bonding out a <br />portion of the tourist tax money for the <br />purpose of a beach project. <br />ON MOTION made by Michael Vanatta, SECONDED <br />by Bill Jordan, the Committee unanimously <br />(5-0) approved that the Vero Beach -Beach <br />Restoration Project Near -Shore Hardbottom <br />Mapping, Biological Survey, and Beach <br />Restoration Alternative Assessment <br />Professional Coastal Engineering Services <br />Agreement <br />and Scope <br />of Work be forwarded <br />to <br />the Board <br />of County <br />Commissioners on June <br />15, <br />1993. <br />ON MOTION made by Michael Vanatta, SECONDED <br />by Bill Jordan, the Committee unanimously <br />(5-6) approved recommending to the Board of <br />County Commissioners that a person be hired <br />specifically to work on beach restoration. <br />Commissioner Adams commented that the first recommendation is <br />contingent upon increasing the tourist tax to 3%, which should <br />cover the annual payments of $175,000 on a $2 million, 20 -year bond <br />at 6% interest. Issuing bonds based on projected tourist tax <br />revenue is a way to expedite the beach restoration project. The <br />second recommendation was presented and approved at today's BCC <br />56 <br />
