RESOLUTION NO. -93-184 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, SUPPORTING REFORM OF THE <br />WORKERS' COMPENSATION LAWS OF THE STATE <br />OF FLORIDA; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE <br />DATE. <br />WHEREAS, workers' compensation is a required and necessary <br />expense of engaging in business in the State of Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, the cost of maintaining workers' compensation <br />coverage has consistently escalated over the past several years; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the cost of maintaining workers' compensation is <br />becoming prohibitively expensive and reaching levels that are <br />beyond the abilities of the small businessmen to maintain; and <br />WHEREAS, it is imperative that a balance be attained between <br />the protection of the employee in the work force and the cost of <br />the employer providing that protection. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County <br />Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida, that: <br />Section 1 That the County Commission of Indian River County <br />hereby supports and encourages the Legislature of the State of <br />Florida to examine and amend the workers' compensation laws of <br />the State of Florida, in recognition that workers' compensation <br />coverage is becoming prohibitively expensive to the small <br />businessman, and to reform these laws with a goal of striking a <br />balance between the protection of the employee in the work force <br />and the cost to the employer providing that protection. <br />Section 2 That the County Clerk shall forward a copy of <br />this resolution to the Governor' -of the State of Florida, the <br />President of the Senate of the State of Florida, the Speaker of <br />the House of Representatives of the State of Florida, and the <br />legislative delegation representing Indian River County. <br />+ This resolution was moved for adoption by Commissioner <br />Eggert, seconded by Commissioner Adams, and was adopted by the <br />following vote: <br />Chairman Richard N. Bird Absent <br />Vice Chairman John W. Tippin Aye <br />Commissioner Fran B. Adams Aye <br />Commissioner Carolyn K. Eggert Aye <br />Commissioner Kenneth R.
