estimate, due to critical needs of the various departments, Staff is <br />requesting Board action on funding this particular area from the <br />construction budget. <br />Staff is also requesting Board approval of the attached list of <br />furnishings for the new courthouse. The associated cost is an <br />estimate based on pricing from vendors that contract with various <br />governmental entities. <br />Director Dean distributed a list of proposed furnishings for <br />the new courthouse. He explained that all of the items are of good <br />quality and should stand up under heavy use. The new furnishings <br />will be placed in areas used by the public, and the old furniture <br />will be used in the work areas in the building. He emphasized that <br />many of the old furnishings will be used. The purchases will be <br />made under the terms of existing governmental contracts to save <br />money. <br />Antonio Amado, director of interiors of the architectural firm <br />Pierce, Goodwin, Alexander and Linville, discussed the criteria <br />used to determine which furnishings from the old courthouse can be <br />used at the new courthouse. He stressed that as much of the old <br />furnishings as possible will be used. <br />Commissioner Tippin asked how much the total cost of the new <br />furnishings exceeds the original amount budgeted. <br />General Services Director Sonny Dean advised that the original <br />furniture budget of $600,000 was based on square footage. The list <br />of furnishings being presented today totals $874,702, but he <br />expected to be able to reduce the cost to about $700,000 by <br />conducting negotiations with the manufacturers and buying in <br />volume. <br />Commissioner Macht pointed out that all of the furnishings <br />meet the specifications to avoid sick building syndrome, which <br />contributed to the higher cost. He emphasized that the furnishings <br />are standardized and custom orders were not permitted. He reported <br />that the furniture from the old courthouse in good condition that <br />cannot be used in the new courthouse will be kept on hand for <br />transfer to other County departments as needed. He mentioned that <br />the furnishings in the lawyer's lounge could be eliminated from the <br />list to same some money. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Adams, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Eggert, the Board unanimously (4-0, <br />Chairman Bird being absent) eliminated the <br />furnishings in the lawyers lounge in the new <br />courthouse from the budget. <br />25 <br />on Raffi-OHM <br />BOOK �� <br />
