Please <br />note we are still waiting for JJIS verification for 6 month follow-up. <br />The Samaritan Center Children's Program <br />Funded Year: 2016-2017 <br />Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach, Inc. <br />Grant: $29,000 <br />Funds used: $29,000 (100%) <br />Total children served: 45 unduplicated children served. Cost per child: $644.44 <br />Focus area addressed: Building Parent Capacity through "Life Skills Development" including, <br />parenting, budgeting, and education, with the primary goal being the promotion and development <br />of healthy family values and family structure leading to successful re-entry into mainstream <br />society. <br />Taxonomy #: Homeless Shelter BH -180.850 — Program that provides a temporary place to stay <br />for people who have no permanent housing. Child Abuse Prevention FN -1500.1900-150 — <br />protect children from physical, sexual and /or emotional abuse or exploitation through a variety <br />of educational interventions which may focus on children of various ages, parents, people who <br />work with children and/or parents regarding ways of avoiding or handling an abusive situation <br />and/or information about the indicators and incidence of abuse, requirement for reporting abuse <br />and community resources that are available to children who have been abused and to their <br />families. <br />Program Description: This program is designed to offer long-term transitional housing and <br />guidance to homeless families with children who reside in Indian River County. Samaritan <br />Center prepares the homeless families to live independently. Adult clients attend trainings <br />concerning the following: creating and maintaining a budget; learning and using positive <br />parenting skills; participating in employment and life skills training; required counseling for <br />mental health issues and well-being. Participants are required to obtain employment and to <br />follow a four -tiered level program prior to graduating from The Center. Children receive <br />academic tutorial support sessions on: identifying positive, healthy behavior; gaining self-esteem <br />and learning character values; the negative effects of drugs and alcohol; the effects of divorce on <br />children; and the importance of health and hygiene. The children attend special outings within <br />the community via Samaritan Center and other community collaboration, such as attending local <br />summer camps and taking swimming lessons at Gifford Youth Aquatic Center. <br />Collaborations: The Samaritan Center collaborates with the following community partners on a <br />regular basis to provide referrals and/or services to homeless families and their children, <br />depending on each individual family's needs. <br />-42- <br />55 <br />
