C. Ortho -Phosphate Results <br />Figure 13 shows ortho-phosphate sample results. The average ortho-phosphate <br />contribution from the pipe discharge is minimal and the ortho-phosphate <br />concentration in the deep settling pond is insignificant. Ortho -phosphate begins <br />to rise significantly after Sample Point PSP, reaching a maximum value at <br />Sample Point C. After that the concentration drops but rises again between <br />Sample Points D and E. The average ortho-phosphate concentration at the <br />discharge into the Lateral C Canal is only about 1.1 times greater than that <br />discharging into the Lateral C Canal from the east at Sample Point F. The <br />steady decrease in ortho-phosphate between Sample Points C and D may be <br />due to uptake by aquatic vegetation in the canal and/or dilution from other canal <br />inputs.
