PROCLAMATION 5 C <br />DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF MAY, 2018, AS <br />Historic Preservation Month <br />WHEREAS, the National Historic Preservation Act was signed into law in 1,966 and <br />established the nation's legal framework for the protection and preservation of historic <br />buildings, landscapes, and archaeological discoveries; and <br />WHEREAS, over the past 50 years, the National Historic Preservation Act has had a <br />profound and positive impact on local communities throughout Florida, especially through the <br />National Register of Historic Places, a program honoring our nation's diverse cultural, <br />agricultural; natural, and built environments; and <br />WHEREAS, the United States and thousands of public, private, and nonprofit sector <br />partners, such as the Indian River County Historical Society, are commemorating the 50th <br />Anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act throughout 2018 under the banner of <br />"Preservation 50"; and <br />WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives, and Historic <br />Preservation Month 2018 is an occasion for celebrating the historic resources within our <br />community. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the Month of May, 2018, be <br />designated.as Historic Preservation Month in Indian River County. <br />Adopted this 1st day of May, 2018.
