Peter D. O'Bryan
From: Murray, Sine < Sine. Murray@ dep.state.fl.us >
Sent: Friday, May 04, 2018 11:06 AM
To: Peter D. O'Bryan
Cc: tcournoyer@irc.gov
Subject: Appointment to Advisory Group for St. Sebastian Preserve State Park
Dear Chairman O'Bryan,
The Florida Park Service is creating an advisory group to provide stakeholder input on the management plan for St.
Sebastian River Preserve State Park. St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park is one of the largest conservation areas in
the Indian River —South Brevard County region. The park provides quality outdoor resource-based recreation, protects
important habitat for wildlife and critical water quality protection for the St. Sebastian River and Indian River Lagoon.
We would you like to request a representative of Indian River County's elected government to serve on the
Management Plan Advisory Group for the park. Appointment of a local elected official is referenced in Ch. 259.032,
Florida Statutes. Local officials may also appoint a designee.
The management plan advisory group is made up of elected officials, representatives of local governments, other land
management agencies, local land owners, and local or regional conservation, recreation and business interests. We find
a focus -group review of our plans to be very beneficial to both our long-term visioning process and short term planning
for state parks.
The advisory group for the St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park management plan will meet one time, for about 2
hours, on dune 71, 2018 at the St. Sebastian River Preserve Visitor Center located at 1000 Buffer Preserve Drive,
Fellsmere, FL 32948. We will send the County's appointee a copy of the draft management plan and an appointment
letter with additional information within the next two weeks.
Staff of the Division of Recreation and Parks will answer questions and discuss the pian at the meeting and advisory
group members will be able to share their comments. After the meeting, each member will receive a staff report
summarizing the group's comments and the Division's staff recommendation on any proposed changes to the draft
management plan. Comments by advisory group members may also be provided to me in writing. This is the extent of
obligation for appointed advisory group members.
If the you cannot attend nor delegate the appointment, or if the delegate cannot attend the meeting for any reason, we
can certainly gather the County's input via phone, e-mail, or regular mail. The process is very flexible and adaptable to
everyone's schedule. Please let us know if you can attend or provide me with the name and contact information of your
selected designee.
There will also be a general public meeting to discuss the draft management plan the evening before on lune 6th, 2018
at the North Indian River County Library, 1001 Sebastian Blvd. Sebastian, FL 3295. We would certainly like to encourage you
or any other county officials interested in the management of the state park to attend.
Thank you for your assistance. Please feel free to give me a call if I can provide any additional information. We look
forward to working with Indian River County.
Regards,
Sine
191
