Zito, Assistant County Administrator <br />From: Michael Redstone, Recreation Manager <br />Subject: Approval of the Special Olympics Florida Aquatic Championships <br />Agreement for the Swimming Event to be held at North County Aquatic <br />Center and for the Opening Ceremony to be held at the iG Center <br />It is requested that the information herein presented be given formal consideration by the Board of <br />County Commission at its regular meeting May 22, 2018. <br />DESCRIPTIONS AND CONDITIONS: <br />The Indian River County Recreation Department will be hosting the State of Florida Special <br />Olympics Aquatic Championship Meet at the North County Aquatic Center on October 6 & 7, <br />2018. This will be the 12th consecutive year the meet has been held here in Indian River County. <br />This Special Olympics competition is a means to achieve physical fitness, self-esteem and life <br />skills necessary to be productive, respected and contributing members of their communities. <br />This two-day event hosts over 350 athletes for both long and short course events. The event would <br />not be possible without the contributions of over 300 volunteers from our community. Both the <br />Indian River County Recreation Department and the Special Olympics Florida, Inc. a Florida not- <br />for-profit corporation desire to continue the agreement for use of the North County Aquatic Center <br />and the iG Center in 2018, 2019 and 2020. The term of the Agreement is for three years, they get <br />exclusive use of the NCAC, iG Center, help of the County Recreation staff, volunteers and <br />sponsors dedicated to supporting the event. The Athletes, Coaches, Care Givers, Parents and <br />Supporters will stay in Indian River County hotels, eat in local restaurants and shop in local stores. <br />To help offset the cost of swim meet, Special Olympics Florida group shall pay to the County the <br />sum of $1700.00 for 2018, $1700.00 for 2019 and $2250.00 for 2020. Additionally the Recreation <br />Department will submit a Grant Application to the Treasure Coast Sports Commission.
