B. Organizational Capability <br />1. Provide the mission statement and vision of your organization: <br />Mission Statement: <br />To support all Indian River County veterans through the collective effort of veteran's <br />organizations, civic associations and the local community, thereby raising awareness of <br />veterans' needs and of their contributions to society. - <br />Vision: <br />TO BE RECOGNIZED AS THE LEADING INDIAN RIVER COUNTY AGENCY FOR VETERAN SUPPORT <br />2. Provide a brief summary of your organization, including areas of expertise, accomplishments and <br />population served. <br />The Veterans Council of Indian River County (IRC) is a 501(C)(3) organization dedicated to <br />supporting veterans and their families. It has grown to become a collaboration of 24 veterans <br />organizations and over 45 non -veterans entities who contribute to the welfare of veterans. <br />Current programs serving IRC exclusively are: <br />• Transportation Program for Vets, taking hundreds of veterans & caregivers annually to <br />medical appointments locally and to the West Palm Beach VA Hospital. <br />• Upward American Veterans (UAV) providing routine emergency and living expenses <br />to qualified Veterans and their families - assisting with future family sustainability. <br />Funds supporting veterans_ through UAV have exceeded $146K since 2012 <br />• Veterans Outreach - program to contact.returning veterans, provide them guidance, and <br />establish collaborative relationships with IRC organizations that support veterans. <br />• Honoring Veterans all year, including Honor Guard funeral duties, Memorial and <br />Veteran's Day ceremonies hosted on Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary <br />• Veterans in the Classroom Program - teaching students about respect for the nation, <br />flag honors, military service and citizenship <br />• Food for Vets serving 100-150 households per month <br />• Employment Assistance — in partnership with the Treasure Coast Human Resource <br />Association <br />• Scholarship Program in partnership with IRSC <br />• Volunteers working at the Indian River Mall Victory Military Store where proceeds <br />benefit veterans organizations <br />200 <br />
