Middle school program that addresses risky behavior <br />Brief Description of the Program: <br />Botivin LifeSkills Training (LST) is a research -validated substance abuse prevention program for youth proven to <br />reduce the risks of alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse, and violence by targeting the major social and psychological <br />factors that promote the initiation of substance use and other risky behaviors. LST provides children and young <br />teens with the confidence and skills necessary to successfully handle challenging situations. LST has been <br />recognized by the state of Florida as the choice primary prevention program. <br />Five staff cover the full-time commitment to provide our schools with the LST program. LST is taught in all four <br />county middle schools, both charter schools, the Alternative Education Center and six "Title One" elementary <br />schools. Thirty weeks of lessons are delivered over the three years of middle school and 8 lessons for each 3rd, <br />,4th and 5th grade of elementary school. <br />
