The
program mirrors Head Start. The only difference is that Early Bird is funded with local funds, as opposed to federal Head Start funding. No additional
Head Start funding is available to meet the needs of 3 year olds in Indian River County. Head Start must give priority placement to 4 -year-olds. Early Bird
will'operate 2 classrooms serving a total of 34 children a year. One modular classroom is located on the campus of Indian River Academy in South Vero.
The other will be located on the campus of Dodgertown Elementary in Gifford. Both classrooms are in areas identified as pockets of poverty and areas
with need for additional high-quality early education opportunities for 3 -year-olds. Early Bird focuses on child and family development and success,
utilizes community resources, and results in every child having the opportunity to reach his/her fullest potential and be kindergarten ready at age 5. Early
Bird meets child and family needs related to Early Childhood Education, Health, Mental Health and Disability, Nutrition, Dental, and Family Engagement.
The program operates 5 days a week, 42 weeks per year from 7:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Age-appropriate activities meet the needs of children and their
families in the areas of health, social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and language development. EOC provides materials, activities and experiences that
support a broad range of children's prior experiences, maturation rate, and modalities styles of learning, needs, cultures, and interests. Children's
progress is tracked using Florida Department of Education Teaching Strategies Gold Monitoring System. The program is replicable, scalable, and has
proven successful in leveraging funding support and partnerships.
