state -level pay gap and the gap <br />for smaller racial/ethnic groups <br />(e.g., Native Hawaiian or other <br />Pacific Islander and American <br />Indian or Alaska Native workers). <br />The reason is that it includes more <br />households -approximately 3 <br />million per year -compared with <br />the 100,000 surveyed in the CPS <br />(U.S. Census Bureau, 2016). The <br />ACS results are released annually in <br />September, and briefs based on the <br />survey can be found on the Census <br />Bureau's website. According to <br />ACS data, in 2017 the pay gap <br />was smallest in California, where <br />women were paid 89 percent of <br />what men were paid. The largest <br />was in Louisiana, where women <br />were paid 69 percent of what men <br />were paid (figure 2). <br />Note: National data include workers ages <br />15 and older and are based on the Current <br />Population Survey.
