Adams, Commissioner <br />Board of County Commissioners <br />1840 25th Street <br />Vero Beach, FL 32960 <br />Dear Commissioner Adams, <br />This letter confirms my interest in an appointment to the <br />Environmental Control Board. The following is my brief re- <br />sume; however, I will be happy to furnish a more detailed <br />one if required. <br />Firstly, I have been a full-time resident of Indian River <br />County for the past six years. I am a retired educator <br />with twenty five years of service to education. The last <br />position I held, 1971 t0 1985, was as co-director of the <br />Thunder Mountain Environmental Education Center, located <br />in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. This <br />center was a joint effort of the National Park Service, <br />the New Jersey State Department of Education, and the New- <br />ton (NJ) Board of Education. The 365 acre facility pro- <br />vided environmental education experiences to approximately <br />4500 regular and special education students yearly. My <br />task as administrator at this center was to develope and <br />implement special education programs for participating <br />school districts. In addition, I directed a National Park <br />Servive'sponsered Y.C.C. program at this center. <br />I Completed my undergraduate studies at the University of <br />California, San Jose, and graduate studies, through a spe- <br />ial education traineeship, at Rutgers University. <br />My present civil affiliations include; <br />Member and volunteer teaching assistant, Environmental <br />Learning Center <br />Member, Sebastian Area Conservation and Recreation Alliance <br />President, National Chapter #3865, National Campers and <br />Hikers Association/Family Campers and RVers <br />Vice President, Roseland Gardens Prqperty Owners Association <br />Member and volunteer, Parent to Parent <br />Professional Awards <br />New Jersey Special Education Teacher of the Year 1977 <br />National recognition, NARC July 1977 <br />Crown Zellenbach Scholarship, University of California <br />I am pleased to have been selected as a candidate for the <br />Environmental Control Board, and I look forward to serving <br />on this board. <br />Sincerely, <br />Charles A.
