B.1. <br />SSR Contamination Action Plan <br />May 29, 2019: SWDD staff met with Tropical Recycling, Waste Management and Republic Services to <br />recognized the important issue with single stream recycling contamination and agreed that a joint <br />effort was needed to identify, educate and enforce violations of County Code Section 204.09 (a)(6) <br />which states to "Not commingle garbage or yard trash with recyclables in a recycling container." <br />• Initial Steps: Messaging to residents via Robo- <br />Calls. <br />• Waste Management drivers started tagging carts <br />that had obvious visible violations and not <br />servicing them. <br />• Republic Services started identifying trucks at the <br />MRF. <br />• Field audits of specific areas around the county. <br />• IRC Code Enforcement to send out letters. <br />"This message is sent on behalf of <br />Indian River County. If garbage is <br />found in your blue recycling cart, it <br />will not be picked up! Repeat, if <br />garbage is found in your blue <br />recycling cart, it will not be picked <br />up! For questions, call Indian River <br />County Landfill at 772-770-5112." <br />Identification through <br />Field Audits <br />Cart has been <br />tagged 3 separate <br />times! <br />
