B. Organizational Capability <br />1. Provide the mission statement and vision of your organization: <br />Mission Statement: <br />With God's guidance, our mission is to offer quality programs for children of all ages that will develop self- <br />esteem, teach character, and encourage each individual to reach his or her ultimate potential; and nurture <br />partnerships with various community entities in Gifford and the surrounding municipalities of Indian River <br />County. <br />Vision: <br />The GYAC vision is to make the Gifford Youth Achievement Center the premier site in Indian River <br />County where children of all ages can come for education and recreation and not have to. worry about <br />social, economic, academic or cultural barriers to be a success in today's world. <br />GYAC's vision is that through our programs and activities, we will increase participation, increase High <br />School and College graduation rates, increase parental involvement, enhance youth and adult success in <br />life, and increase the positive sense of worth within every individual we serve. <br />2. Provide a brief summary of your organization, including areas of expertise, accomplishments and <br />population served. <br />Organization: The Gifford Youth Achievement Center (GYAC) is a 501 (c)(3) organization that opened its <br />doors in 1998. Its sole purpose is to enhance the academic achievement of children in Indian River <br />County. A volunteer Board of Directors governs the GYAC. Formally, the GYAC was under the auspice <br />of the Progressive Civic League of Gifford, FL, Inc., a private not-for-profit corporation. GYAC officially <br />became a separate not-for-profit corporation on January 1, 2002. <br />For over 20 years, GYAC has provided program and services to vulnerable, economically disadvantaged <br />youth in grades K -12. In addition, GYAC serves adults and senior citizens by offering health screenings, <br />aerobic exercises, health and wellness workshops, in addition to cultural and recreational activities. <br />Areas of expertise include teachers and tutors, a guidance counselor, professional tutors, volunteers, and <br />recreational support staff. Partners provide specific programmatic expertise in areas that include social, <br />cultural and recreational activities. <br />The GYAC's accomplishments include being named the 2010 United Way of Indian River County Agency <br />Excellence Award winner and being nominated for the award in 2009 and 2008, the 2005 Outstanding <br />Florida Minority Education Community Organization award, and the Hillary Rodham Clinton Millennium <br />Green Project Award in 1999. GYAC celebrated its 20th Anniversary in January 2018. <br />3. Briefly list any certifications and/or accreditations obtained by your agency. <br />The GYAC is a member of the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce and a partner agency of the <br />United Way of Indian River County. <br />232 <br />
