RESOLUTION 2020- 016 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, APPROVING ADOPT A ROADWAY AND <br />ADOPT A STORMWATER PARK PROGRAMS AND <br />AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR TO <br />ENTER INTO AGREEMENTS FOR THOSE <br />PROGRAMS <br />WHEREAS, the Indian River County Public Works Department has administered <br />the Adopt -A -Road program since 1993, whereby various civic groups, churches, <br />educational organizations, individuals and homeowner's associations have volunteered <br />to pick up litter along County maintained collector and arterial roadways; and <br />WHEREAS, in exchange for voluntary litter pick up, the County fabricates and <br />installs signs bearing the name of the volunteer group at the adopted 1 -mile stretch of <br />roadway and supplies the necessary safety equipment for the groups; and <br />WHEREAS, currently there are approximately 30 roadway locations adopted <br />within the County and the estimated total cost per group is $350.00, however, that cost <br />is outweighed by the savings realized by the County as Public Works employees can <br />dedicate time to tasks other than litter control; and <br />WHEREAS, there are three new organizations interested in adopting a roadway <br />and one group seeking to adopt a Stormwater Park in Indian River County; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board desires to encourage participation in the Adopt a <br />Roadway and Adopt a Stormwater Park in order to keep these communities free of litter <br />and to instill pride in neighborhoods. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA: <br />1. The Board hereby approves the addition of Adopt a Stormwater Park to the <br />Adopt a Roadway program. <br />2. The Public Works Director is hereby authorized to enter into agreements on <br />behalf of the Board with interested individuals and organizations for the Adopt a <br />Roadway and Adopt a Stormwater Park programs, said agreements to be approved in <br />advance by the County Attorney's Office. <br />
