Donaldson, P.E., �. <br />Coastal Engineer <br />SUBJECT: DEP Grant Applications for the PEP Reef <br />DATE: March 1, 1995 <br />DESCRIPTIONS AND CONDITIONS <br />County staff has applied for grant funds from the Department of Environmental <br />Protection Recovery Program. This application was filed without prior Board approval <br />due to time constraints. The grant does not require matching funds and the applications <br />may be withdrawn without penalty. <br />The grant application is for assistance with the monitoring of the Indian River <br />CountyNero Beach PEP Reef Project. This application has undergone initial review and <br />the County will be notified in March, 1995 of the Department's recommendations (see <br />Exhibit "A"). The County staff requested Florida Pollution Recovery Program funds in <br />the amount of $900,000(see Exhibit "B").- This was the estimated cost for monitoring as <br />required by DEP Beaches and Coastal Systems. <br />ALTERNATIVES AND ANALYSIS <br />The following alternatives are presented: <br />Alternative No. 1 <br />Authorize the County Public Works Director to act as the agent on behalf <br />of the Board of County Commissioners for the Pollution Recovery Program <br />Grant Application. <br />Alternative No. 2 <br />Direct staft to withdraw the application. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS <br />County staff recommends that the County Commission authorize the Public Works <br />Department to complete the application process so that funding may be obtained. <br />Matching funds recorded in the application were previously authorized by the Board from <br />Tourist Tax Revenue <br />M <br />March 7, 1995 <br />
