To date, P2000 funds have been approved under various state <br />programs to fully or partially fund the acquisition of 10 sites <br />under review by LAAC, and funding for other project sites is <br />anticipated. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners adopt the <br />attached resolution in support of sixth year appropriation of <br />funding for P2000, and in support of the State designating a <br />permanent funding source for the remaining years of the program. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously <br />adopted Resolution No. 95-45 urging the <br />continued appropriation of funding for <br />Preservation 2000. <br />Resolution No. 95 -.45 <br />A RESOLUTION OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />URGING THE CONTINUED APPROPRIATION OF FUNDING <br />FOR PRESERVATION 2000. <br />WHEREAS, the citizens of Indian River County have advanced <br />environmental land preservation efforts with voter approval to <br />locally fund a county wide preservation program; and <br />WHEREAS, Preservation 2000 is a ten-year program designed to <br />acquire and therefore save Florida's best remaining natural land, <br />and is the State's most comprehensive land protection program; and <br />WHEREAS, Florida's population growth and conversion of natural <br />areas continue to threaten our natural systems; and <br />WHEREAS, Preservation 2000 offers an opportunity for funding <br />partnership between Indian River.County and the State to protect <br />environmentally significant lands and support the implementation of <br />our county comprehensive plan; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County recognizes the importance of <br />Preservation 2000 in enabling the implementation of conservation <br />goals, growth management and comprehensive land use plans; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA: <br />Section 1. That the Indian River County Board of County <br />Commissioners hereby urges the Legislature of the State of Florida <br />to . <br />A. Appropriate funding for a sixth series of <br />Preservation 2000 bonds. <br />B. Designate a permanent funding source for the <br />remaining years of the Preservation 2000 program. <br />Section 2.
