PROCLAMATION <br />ON PARTNERING WITH THE 2020 CENSUS <br />TO ENSURE AN ACCURATE COUNT FOR INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />WHEREAS, an accurate census count invigorates our community's development in the <br />upcoming decade by impacting funding decisions for critical local services, including schools, <br />health clinics, after-school programs, public transportation, roads, school lunch programs, <br />playgrounds, and community centers for seniors; and <br />WHEREAS, more than $400 billion per year in federal and state funding is allocated to states <br />and communities, based in part on census data; and <br />WHEREAS, census data determines how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House <br />of Representatives and often is used for redistricting state legislatures and local voting districts; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the 2020 Census stimulates economic growth by creating local jobs, especially <br />as census takers who verify our community receives an accurate enumeration; and <br />WHEREAS, the information collected by the Census is confidential and protected by law <br />under Title 13, U.S. Code. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that as a 2020 Census partner, <br />Indian River County supports the goals of the Census; encourages its citizens to participate in <br />events that raise overall awareness and ensure a full, accurate count; and seeks opportunities to <br />collaborate with other like-minded groups in our community to advocate on behalf of the 2020 <br />Census. <br />Adopted this 3rd day of March, 2020.
