IRC-1838 Indian River County <br />Main Library <br />Roof Replacement 06 10 00-7 Rough Carpentry <br />8. Plywood Sheathing Securement: Secure at 12” on center staggered each <br />direction. <br />H. Select fasteners of size and length that will not be exposed from the building interior and/or <br />from the ground, or remove protruding fasteners, paint or finish to eliminate exposure. <br />I. Thickness of wood nailers shall be flush with adjacent insulation and other materials. <br />Additional fasteners shall be installed to ensure nailers are flush. <br />J. Unless otherwise detailed, plywood used as blocking or shim shall be installed below <br />dimensional lumber such that the fastener head terminates at the dimensional lumber <br />surface. <br />K. Wood nailers at roof perimeters, expansion joints, roof area dividers, etc. shall not be less <br />than 3 feet long. <br />L. When multiple nailers are installed stacked two high or more, offset nailers no less than <br />12" such that joints at nailer end do not line-up vertically. <br />M. Each end of nailers shall be fastened with additional fasteners to ensure a smooth <br />transition at butted joints, and to prevent warping and/or twisting. <br />N. Cants: <br />1. Add wood cants where required for membrane flashings. <br />2. Where new wood cants are required, cut cant to form 45 degree transition using <br />minimum 2” x 6” lumber, with a 5-1/2” face. <br />O. Shims: <br />1. The Contractor shall add plywood and lumber shims as required for the specified <br />height and thickness. <br />2. Shims shall make full contact with stacked rough carpentry. Partial shim contact, <br />and small shim pieces spaced apart are not acceptable. <br />3. Plywood used as blocking or shim shall be installed below dimensional lumber <br />such that the fastener head terminates at the dimensional lumber surface. <br />P. Curbs: <br />1. Adjust wood curbs to support rooftop piping, ducts, equipment, etc. <br />2. Raise equipment to provide required flashing height for roofing. <br />3.4 CLEANING <br />A. The Contractor shall ensure the site and building are cleaned to meet pre-construction <br />conditions, as accepted by the Owner. <br />B. The site and building shall be free of saw dust from pressure treated lumber, fasteners and <br />other debris. <br />C. Damages to the building, grounds, equipment and site shall be repaired or replaced by the <br />Contractor to meet pre-construction conditions, as accepted by the Owner. <br />END OF SECTION 06 10 00
