Wireless Communication <br /> Policy <br /> In compliance with Rule 14-90, (FL 14-90)Florida Administrative Code; Florida Public <br /> Transportation Authority(FPTA);Equipment and Operational Safety Standards for Bus Transit <br /> Systems, all SRA employees (drivers)are prohibited from using personal electronic <br /> communication devices while driving or operating a leased or owned SRA vehicle. In <br /> conjunction with the organizations (SRA)Policy on Appropriate Use of Equipment, further <br /> elaboration on the proper use of electronic devices is below. <br /> Transportation Employees <br /> Electronic communication devices or electrical devices issued by SRA and/or installed in SRA <br /> vehicles, leased or owned, are provided for the safety and efficient operation of our Transit and <br /> Para Transit system, and is to be used solely for business related purposes. Social conversation <br /> and conversations unrelated to the transportation function is prohibited. <br /> Personal electronic devices and personal wireless communication devices as outlined in <br /> FL 14-90, is not to interfere with,nor distract an operator from their safety related duties. The <br /> use of these devices are prohibited while the transit vehicle is in motion and as a <br /> requirement of FL 14-90, must be turned off with any ear piece(s) removed from the <br /> operator's ear while occupying the driver's seat. <br /> Emergency Situation <br /> SRA Transportation trains and communicates to all Transportation employees (Transportation <br /> Driver)the procedure to follow in the event of an emergency situation, including instructions for <br /> using personal electronic communication devices (the operator or by-stander) if SRA electronic <br /> devices no longer operative. <br /> Definitions (Extracted from FL 14-90): <br /> Bus Transit System - a community transportation coordinator; a public transit provider;.or a <br /> private contract transit provider which owns, operates, leases, or controls buses; or a privately <br /> owned or operated transit provider that receives operational or capital funding from the <br /> Department and owns, operates, leases, or controls buses, other than nonpublic sector buses, <br /> defined in Section 316.003,F.S.,that provides provide transportation services available for use <br /> by the general riding public. <br /> Community Transportation Coordinator-a provider of transportation services or an entity <br /> that ensures such services are provided by another bus transit system. <br /> Drive or Operate-terms which include all time spent at the controls of a bus in operation. <br /> Driver- any person trained and designated to drive a bus on a street or highway which is being <br /> used for the public transport of persons for compensation. <br /> 140 <br />
