MB <br />RESOLUTION NO. 92- 185 <br />A RESOLUTION OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE UNITED STATES <br />DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS TO SITE <br />THE PROPOSED NEW VETERANS HOSPITAL IN <br />BREVARD COUNTY. <br />WHEREAS, the United States Department of Veterans Affairs is planning <br />the construction of a new Veterans Hospital in central Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, there are approximately 12,000 veterans permanently residing <br />in Indian River County, plus several thousand part-time resident veterans; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, there are approximately 63,000 veterans permanently residing <br />in Brevard County; and <br />WHEREAS, these veterans must presently travel the long distance to <br />Riviera Beach, Orlando, or Miami for medical care; and <br />WHEREAS, the United States General Accounting Office has determined <br />that a proposed site in Brevard County would best serve veterans and <br />taxpayers in terms of cost, accessibility, and other factors; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: <br />1. Indian River County does hereby request the United States Department <br />of Veterans Affairs to site the proposed new Veterans Hospital in <br />Brevard County. <br />2, The Executive Aide to the Board is hereby directed to forward a copy <br />of this resolution to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, <br />Senator Bob Graham, Senator Connie Mack, and Congressman Jim <br />Bacchus. <br />The resolution was moved for adoption by Commissioner Bird , <br />and the motion was seconded by Commissioner Bowman and, upon being <br />put to a vote, the vote was as follows: <br />Chairman Carolyn K. Eggert <br />Aye <br />Vice Chairman Margaret C. Bowman <br />Aye <br />Commissioner Richard N. Bird <br />Aye <br />Commissioner Don C. Scurlock, Jr. <br />Aye <br />Commissioner John W.
