e <br />1 <br />DEFINITIONS <br />Attachment A Page l of 4 <br />Indian River County <br />Interim Manatee Protection Speed Zone Plan <br />IfDay Marker" means the official U.S. Coast Guard maintained <br />nav gi ation channel markers as designated on National Oceanic and <br />Atmospheric Administration navigational charts or accurate repro- <br />ductions thereof. "Day Markers" shall include any buoy used by the <br />Coast Guard as a replacement for a damaged day marker. <br />"Moderate wake" means that a water vessel is not generating waves <br />greater than seven and one-half (71) inches in vertical distance <br />from ambient water level. (Generally, boats 26 feet or more in <br />length may be exceeding "moderate wake" if they are exceeding <br />seven m.p.h.) <br />"Slow speed" is approximately seven (7) m.p.h.-, a water vessel <br />that is not operating on a plane and which has settled into the <br />water and is proceeding without wake or with minimum wake is <br />proceeding at slow speed. <br />"Water vessel" means every description of boat, watercraft, barge, <br />ani airboat used or capable of being used as a means of transpor- <br />tation on water, including personal watercraft. <br />DESCRIPTION OF SPEED ZONE REGULATION AREAS <br />St. Sebastian River Slow Speed Zone. That portion of the St. <br />3°e5astian ffiver witTiin inaian sliver bounty west of US Highway #1, <br />is declared a slow speed zone (throughout). That portion of the <br />St. Sebastian River within Brevard County (including C-54 canal) <br />shall be subject to the restrictions of Brevard County and the <br />State of Florida. The St. Sebastian River Slow Speed Zone as <br />herein described shall be in effect year-round. <br />Jungle Trail Narrows Moderate Wake/40 m.p.h. Maximum SpeedZone. <br />=fhe �fungle Trail w <br />Narros is described as that portion_of the <br />Indian River Lagoon east of Pine Island and Wabasso Island, <br />extending from the Wabasso Causeway south to Intracoastal Waterway <br />Day Marker #109, at the southern tip of Pine Island. The Jungle <br />Trail Narrows is declared a moderate wake/40 m.p.h. maximum speed <br />zone, whereby all water vessels operating in the area must not <br />exceed "moderate wake" as define herein. In no case, however, <br />with "moderate wake" or otherwise, shall a water vessel be allowed <br />to exceed 40 m.p.h. The Jungle Trail Narrows Speed Zone as <br />described herein shall be in effect year-round. <br />Moorings_ Slow Speed_ Zone. The Moorings Slow Speed Zone is de- <br />scribed as that portion of the Indian River Lagoon east of the <br />Intracoastal Waterway marked channel, from Day Marker #156 south <br />to Day Marker #161. The western boundary of said slow speed zone <br />shall be the eastern boundary of the ICW channel, between said Day <br />Markers. The Moorings Slow Speed Zone extends eastward to the <br />western shore of the barrier island (Orchid Island), including all <br />of Porpoise Bay, Head Cove Pocket, and all of the navigable canals <br />of the Moorings residential development. The marked access <br />channel from the Moorings to the ICW channel is included in the <br />slow speed zone. All water vessels operating in the described <br />slow speed zone shall not exceed slow speed as defined herein; <br />said restrictions shall apply year --round. <br />
