�a <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING SEPTEMBER, 2020 AS <br />SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH <br />WHEREAS, September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, which directs the community's <br />attention to this public health epidemic destroying lives, whole families and sometimes entire <br />communities; and, <br />WHEREAS, suicide is the second leading cause of death in the U.S. among individuals age 10 to <br />34 -years -old; and, <br />WHEREAS, suicide is the tenth leading cause of death overall in the U.S., claiming the lives <br />of over 47,000 people annually; and, <br />WHEREAS, on average, there are 123 suicides a day or 1 every 12 minutes. In Indian River <br />County, there were 29 suicides in 2019 or 1 death every 12.6 days; and <br />WHEREAS, suicide is the only type of death that is 100% preventable; and by offering the public <br />education, data, support, and services we as a community have taken a step toward preventing another <br />suicide by our residents; and, <br />WHEREAS, we are honored to be part of the healing process, supporting services and <br />addressing mental health illnesses and drug and alcohol addiction, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that September, 2020, be designated as SUICIDE PREVENTION <br />AWARENESS MONTH in the County of Indian River, Florida and ask all residents to learn how they may <br />help, because suicide prevention is everyone's business. <br />Adopted this 15th day of September, 2020.
