EXHIBIT A
Children's Services Advisory Committee
2020-21 Grant Application
Agency Name: Safe Families for Children
Address: 1400 27th Street, Vero Beach, FL, 32960, US
Executive Director: Jackie Herron -Whitfield
Email: jhwhitfield@safefamilies.net
Phone: (847) 770-2723
Fax:
Program Director: Jackie Herron -Whitfield
Email: jhwhitfield@safefamilies.net
Phone: (847) 770-2723
Program(s) Name: Safe Families for Children — Treasure Coast
Focus Area(s): Early Childhood Development
Build Parent Capacity
Program Description:
Founded in Chicago in 2003, Safe Families for Children (SFFC) is a volunteer movement that
gives hope and support to families in distress in over 120 locations in the US by reframing how
families are supported during a crisis. SFFC directly addresses a root cause of neglect, social
isolation, by hosting vulnerable children and creating family -like support for desperate families.
SFFC intervenes prior to abuse and neglect through a community of volunteers motivated by
compassion to keep children safe and ultimately together with their families. Parents (referred to
as placing parent) voluntarily place their children in a safe, loving home (host family homes) where
they are cared for (average of 6 weeks) while other volunteers (family and resource friends) wrap
around and support the parent to help them get back on their feet and restore stability to their
lives.
SFFC has three objectives: 1) prevent child abuse and neglect by providing safe, temporary
homes for children from families in crisis, 2) support and stabilize families in crisis by providing
mentoring and referrals to appropriate resources, and 3) deflect children from entering the child
welfare system by keeping families intact and reunifying children with their parents.
