Students scoring in the 25th - 50th percentile on the iReady reading assessment qualify to attend this remediation and enrichment program. We know that struggling readers need extra time that is well structured and includes targeted instruction to catch up to their peers. Our program is a multi -faceted enriched literacy program that provides remediation, additional time for mastery of academic content for struggling students, and enrichment that connects learning concepts. Moonshot Academy currently serves 400 K-3 students. Managed and staffed by expert Arts Literacy educator, Bridget Lyons, the Moonshot Reading Rocket is a mobile literacy lab that creates customized literacy experiences for children and families in Indian River County. The Rocket partners with dozens of early childhood community organizations as well as VPK and Pre -K programs. Working in the 0-5 space, Bridget brings engaging curriculum that builds early literacy skills to our youngest learners through the Literacy in Action program. She engages with families through working with the KRC's Family Connection Centers and curates literacy rich engagements throughout the community. The Moonshot Reading Rocket has delivered over 1,200 literacy experiences since it launched in 2016. Staffed by trained and trusted early childhood educators, KRC's Family Connection Centers serve as a clearinghouse of information and connector to social service agencies and community resources for families with children. Services provided and sourced include: - home visits and one-on-one communication - connections to community agencies (medical and mental health, social/emotional, early intervention screenings, career advancement, food assistance, preschool and kindergarten enrollment, housing/transportation assistance, etc.) - parent training sessions focused on the stages of child development (physical, social/emotional, cognitive) - group training sessions via partner agencies in KRC Connection Centers (Healthy Start playgroups, Literacy Services GED classes, Sequel Care parent support groups)
