PROCLAMATION S <br />DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 14, AS <br />INDIAN RIVER HABITAT FOR HUMANITY WEEK <br />WHEREAS, Indian River Habitat for Humanity (Habitat) is celebrating 25 years of serving this community; and <br />WHEREAS, Habitat is the leader in affordable housing in Indian River County by building strength, stability, <br />and self-reliance through shelter, and <br />WHEREAS, 420 families have been served locally in 25 years through a combination of 340 new homes sold, <br />and 80 renovated homes sold; and <br />WHEREAS, 250 Neighborhood Revitalization repair projects have been financed in the Gifford and Fellsmere <br />communities; and <br />WHEREAS, 837 children living in Habitat homes are assured a brighter future with better education and health; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the recipients of Habitat's new and renovated homes contributed $181,113 in real estate taxes in <br />2015; and <br />WHEREAS, over 820 additional families have been served overseas, often after natural disasters, such as <br />earthquakes and hurricanes; and <br />WHEREAS, the Habitat ReStore, being the 2nd largest in Florida, funds the construction of 1 in 3 of Habitat's <br />new homes, and contributed $110,397 in Florida sales tax this last year; and <br />WHEREAS, Habitat mobilized 1,331 volunteers who donated a total of 49,237 hours this last year to support <br />the mission; and <br />WHEREAS, Habitat celebrates its accomplishments and looks forward to serving 500 more local families in the <br />next 5 years. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN <br />RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the week of November 13, 2016, be designated as Habitat for Humanity <br />Week in Indian River County, and the Board encourages all citizens to shop, donate, and volunteer with Indian <br />River Habitat for Humanity and the Habitat Restore. <br />Adopted this 15th day of November, 2016 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />
