56 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />HONORING BOB SOLARI, COMMISSIONER OF DISTRICT 5 <br />WHEREAS, Bob Solari was elected to the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners by the citizens <br />of Indian River County in 2008, and has served tirelessly with distinction for 12 years (three terms); and <br />WHEREAS, during his longstanding service, Bob's stellar leadership has resulted in profound and significant <br />accomplishments, such as streamlining operations by sunsetting 13 unnecessary committees; starting grassroots <br />opposition to the 7/50 movement; working with the Commission and activists Glenn Heran and Dr. Stephen <br />Faherty to sell Vero Electric; opposing expansion of All Aboard Florida/Brightline and advocating for critical safety <br />improvements; supporting amelioration of environmental damage to the Lagoon; devoting time to improving the <br />Gifford community's infrastructure and the relationship between Gifford and the Board of County Commissioners; <br />upon recognizing the urgency of the damage done from biosolids, leading the effort to restore Blue Cypress Lake <br />to health; and supporting a well-run Utilities Enterprise Fund; and <br />WHEREAS, Bob's contributions included serving on the Board of Trustees of the Law Library, Affordable <br />Housing Advisory Committee, Metropolitan Planning Organization, Transportation Disadvantaged Local <br />Coordinating Board, St. Johns River Alliance, and the Federal Committee of the Florida Association of Counties; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Bob was successful in helping the County negotiate the purchase of the Dodgertown Golf <br />Course; was awarded the "Fiscal Conservative" award by the Taxpayer's Association; was instrumental in <br />terminating Sebastian and Sea Oaks water and wastewater surcharges; and authored the Religious Freedom <br />Proclamation, which recognized everyone's right to worship; and <br />WHEREAS, Bob represented a source of integrity and collegiality, always treating each member of the <br />Commission with respect regardless of whether he was able to achieve consensus. He remained consistent and <br />constructive in his fiscal conservativeness, and this unfailing sense of stewardship of the tax payer's dollar <br />benefited each and every resident of Indian River County. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN <br />RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board, in recognition of his numerous contributions and distinguished <br />service to this community, expresses its appreciation to Bob Solari, and his fellow Board members wish him the <br />very best in his future endeavors. <br />Adopted this 101' day of November, 2020.
