.Q <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING SEPTEMBER, 2020, AS <br />KEEP INDIAN RIVER BEAUTIFUL <br />INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP MONTH <br />WHEREAS, it is clearly important that we protect our Indian River Lagoon and coastal <br />shoreline from litter pollution and marine debris; and <br />WHEREAS, litter has an 85% chance of moving into our waterways and Lagoon when <br />deposited alongside roadways; and <br />WHEREAS, this is the 25th annual International Coastal Cleanup, as sponsored by Keep <br />Indian River Beautiful; and <br />WHEREAS, volunteers become "Scientists for a Day" to catalog every piece of litter; and <br />WHEREAS, Keep Indian River Beautiful and The Ocean Conservancy compile significant <br />amounts of data for educational purposes every year; and <br />WHEREAS, this event unites people to act locally and make a difference globally, with over <br />1.5 million volunteering in over 100 countries; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County residents can stand strong together to improve our <br />community and our environment. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that September, 2020, is designated <br />as "Keep Indian River Beautiful International Coastal Cleanup Month" in Indian River County, during <br />which our residents are urged to volunteer to help clean up our Lagoon and coastal areas. <br />Adopted this 22nd day of September, 2020.
