RESOLUTION NO. 90-158 <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE LOCATION OF A <br />UNIVERSITY ON THE TREASURE COAST <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commission wishes to facilitate <br />the growth of university educational facilities on the Treasure <br />Coast; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commission finds that having a <br />university located on the Treasure Coast would be favorable and <br />beneficial to the economic interests of Indian River County, the <br />Treasure Coast area, and the State of Florida as a whole; and <br />WHEREAS, the availability of university educational <br />facilities on the Treasure Coast beyond the community college <br />level is very limited; and <br />WHEREAS, the location of a university in the Treasure Coast <br />area would enhance the State University System by providing <br />educational opportunities to residents of the Treasure Coast who <br />are now denied access due to the remote locations to existing <br />State University facilities; and <br />WHEREAS, the Treasure Coast is one of the fastest growing <br />areas in the State and the Board of County Commission recognizes <br />that in order to maintain the quality of life there is a great <br />need for a university to be located on the Treasure Coast; and <br />WHEREAS, the economic element of the Comprehensive Plan of <br />1990 supports the location of a university educational facility <br />on the Treasure Coast; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commission actively supports <br />and joins the cities, counties, business/private sector, <br />educational and other community elements within the Treasure <br />Coast to wholeheartedly support and facilitate the location of a <br />university on the Treasure Coast; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commission as a measure of <br />concern has committed staff support to assist in bringing a <br />university to the Treasure Coast. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE Board of County <br />Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida that they encourage <br />locating a university on the Treasure Coast area to meet the <br />needs of all its citizens and will work towards that goal. <br />The foregoing Resolution was offered by Commissioner <br />Scurlock, and seconded by Commissioner Wheeler and upon being put <br />to a vote, the vote was as follows; <br />Chairman Carolyn K.
