4/25/89.1(LEGAL)Reso1(Vk) <br />} <br />RESOLUTION NO. 89-41 <br />t, <br />r A RESOLUTION OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, <br />BY ITS BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, TO THE <br />GOVERNOR AND THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF <br />FLORIDA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO SENATE BILL <br />251 AND COMPANION HOUSE BILL 478, WHICH BILLS <br />WOULD EXEMPT THE SITING OF SCHOOLS FROM LOCAL <br />LAND DEVELOPMENT REGULATIONS. <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County has adopted strong land <br />development regulations to ensure a higher quality of life <br />for all of the residents of Indian River County; and <br />WHEREAS, these regulations foster quality living by <br />providing well -sited, properly spaced, and easily accessible <br />properties; and <br />WHEREAS, the regulations are adopted after much <br />technical review and public input to ensure that the <br />protection needed by the residents of this county is <br />afforded to all; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County itself adheres to these <br />regulations, including the payment of impact fees, whenever <br />the County undertakes any land development; and <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County believes that it is <br />inimical to the quality of life which presently exists in <br />this county to give wholesale exemptions to any of the <br />County's land development regulations; and <br />WHEREAS, Senate Bill 251 and companion House Bill 478 <br />would exempt school board siting from local land development <br />regulations; and <br />WHEREAS, school siting has a tremendous impact on the <br />land uses in its vicinity, because of the large number of <br />people who use the facility, the attendant traffic, and the <br />large acreage necessary for the school, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that <br />the Board strongly opposes Senate Bill 251 and companion <br />House Bill 478 and respectfully urges the Governor and the <br />Legislature of the State of Florida to likewise oppose these <br />bills. <br />
