December 23, 2020 <br />TO: Jason Brown, Administrator <br />Indian River County <br />FROM: Meredith Egan, COO <br />United Way of IRC <br />RE: Possible Uses for CARES Act 2.0 to the Citizens of IRC <br />Should United Way be a sub -grantee to manage some of the CARES Act 2.0 <br />funds to the community, here are some of the areas of need that we propose <br />need funding: <br />• Mortgage Assistance <br />• Rental Assistance <br />• Utility Assistance <br />• Assistance with critical costs associated with vehicle expenses (i.e., <br />homeless) <br />• Expansion of broadband to assist with distance learning (e.g. - Fellsmere, <br />rural & Wi-Fi desert areas) <br />• Continued Mental Health programming implemented as a result of the <br />increase in stress, isolation, depression and anxiety experienced in the <br />community. Areas of need include expanding telemedicine, general <br />public trainings on resiliency and stress management, aligning mental <br />health professionals in assisted living facilities, increased access to <br />Therapists, Counselors, Psychologists, cost of mental health visits, costs of <br />behavioral health prescriptions, etc.) <br />• Legal assistance to renters and homeowners about to be displaced by <br />landlords and financial institutions. <br />• Food Transportation (costs of transporting donated goods to food banks & <br />pantries) <br />• Special supports for children - diapers, formula and wipes <br />• Child Care Scholarships for up to 2 months for those returning to work or <br />underemployed (150% to 300% of poverty) <br />• Closing out "approved" CARES Act applications who could not meet the <br />December 30th deadline due to "out of stock", backordered or delayed <br />services or equipment. <br />• Staffing support for case management and administrative costs <br />175 <br />
