Healthy Start Coalition Indian River County <br />COMMUNITY DOULA <br />Grant: $30,000 <br />Funds Used: $30,000 <br />Total Families Served: 82 Cost per child: $365.85 <br />Focus Area: Building Parent Capacity <br />Taxonomy Number: PH -6100.3300 Home Based Parenting Education <br />Program Description: The Healthy Start Community Doula program will support, educate, and empower <br />pregnant women to take control of their health. The program will achieve this by providing educational support <br />prenatally and by providing continuous labor support to the laboring woman at the hospital. The services will <br />continue postnatally. Specialized services are provided by a trained Doula. The program aims to improve birth <br />outcomes and health literacy for residents of Indian River County. <br />Collaborations: Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, Partners in Women's Health, Florida Woman Care, Indian <br />River County Health Department, Indian River County Healthy Start Coalition, Healthy Families Indian River <br />County, Parents as Teachers, Women's Care Center, and Moonshot Moment — Kindergarten Readiness <br />Collaborative. <br />GOALS/OUTCOMES REPORT <br />Outcome # 1: The rate of cesarean delivery will decrease to 22% among prenatal clients receiving Doula services. <br />Goal Results: 16.5% Overall <br />75%/ 9 out of 12 of program participants increased knowledge about pain management during labor, coping <br />techniques during labor, comfort measures, procedures and terminology during labor, and pain medication <br />used during labor. One (1) client called -in during at time of birth. *Doula program participation decreased <br />due to visitor restrictions and Doulas not being permitted at the bedside for labor support due to COVID-19. <br />92% /11 out of 12 program participants had a vaginal birth. Though there were a total of 12 clients served <br />within this quarter, (3) were induced, (1) were primary cesarean following failed induction of labor. <br />Outcome # 2: Doula program participants will have a higher breastfeeding initiation rate as compared to the <br />state averages for the same period. <br />Goal Results: 87% Overall <br />• 89% / 10 out of 12 program participants initiated breastfeeding at birth. Please note that (1) client only <br />received prenatal care and declined additional services therefore, we could not include them in our <br />postpartum data.
