Tykes & Teens, Inc. <br />ALTERNATIVE TO OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSION <br />Grant: $29,246 <br />Funds Used: $ 29,246 <br />Total Children Served: 123 unduplicated clients (13 re suspended) (17 virtual) Cost per child: $157 <br />Focus Area: After School and Summer Recreational Activities and Academic Enrichment <br />Taxonomy Number: PS -9800.9900 <br />Program Description: The Alternative to Out of School Suspension provides a supervised activity for middle and <br />high school youth who have been suspended from school. While suspended, youth will be provided with the <br />instruction to complete missing schoolwork and the skills to learn how to prevent future suspension by <br />addressing the root cause of the suspension. At the end of the day, there will be a service opportunity for <br />participating youth to support our community, as the community is supporting them in this initiative. <br />Collaboration: Indian River County School District, Gifford Youth Achievement Center <br />GOALS/OUTCOMES REPORT <br />Goal #1: 65% of student who participate in our program will not receive a second suspension during the <br />remaining school year. <br />Result: For quarter four alone, data is insufficient due to the new school year beginning August 24th. For <br />the fiscal year, 82% of students who attended the program have not received a second suspension at this time. <br />(112 unique students served, 20 resuspended). <br />Goal #2: 90% of youth with at least one suspension prior to services will experience no subsequent suspension <br />3 months post- completion of programming. <br />Result: Quarter four data is insufficient for this outcome measure. For the fiscal year, 47% of students <br />have been free of suspensions 3 months post program completion. It is important to note that of the 12 students <br />who resuspended after completing the program, five students chose to repeat the program when re suspended. <br />It is also important to note students who re suspended had high frequency suspensions prior to ALTOSS and <br />have decreased their frequency of suspensions since attending. <br />Goal #3: 90% of student who complete program will increase knowledge related to area of suspension (anger <br />management/honesty-accountability/drug awareness based on pre/post test of the area in which they were <br />suspended) <br />Result:100% of students completed the program with increased knowledge in related areas of suspension <br />based on pre/posttests provided upon enrollment and discharge from the program. Feedback from the surveys <br />have shown that students feel that they were treated fairly and with respect, giving them the opportunity to <br />learn new skills to be successful upon return to their home school. <br />As a result of the public health crisis/COVID-19 pandemic, ALTOSS was not able to function in its original <br />capacity from March 13th, 2020 to the end of the school and/or fiscal year.
