5A <br />PROCLAMATION <br />HONORING DOUG CARLSON FOR 42 YEARS OF SERVICE <br />WITH THE INDIAN RIVER MOSQUITO CONTROL DISTRICT <br />WHEREAS, Doug Carlson moved to Indian River County at the age of 5 and graduated <br />from Vero Beach High School and then attended Duke University where he received degrees <br />in zoology and economics; and <br />WHEREAS, Doug Carlson began work at the Indian River Mosquito Control District <br />in 1978 as a biologist, and the official "chicken bleeder" for the District's sentinel chicken <br />program; and <br />WHEREAS, Doug Carlson was promoted to Assistant Director in 1991, and then <br />promoted to Director in 2003; and <br />WHEREAS, Doug Carlson has published more than 60 papers, served as President of <br />both the Florida and American Mosquito Control Associations, and served as "Chairman <br />for Life" of the Subcommittee on Managed Marshes; and <br />WHEREAS, Doug Carlson has served the community with compassion, integrity, and <br />honesty for 42 years and the residents of Indian River County have greatly benefitted <br />from having an outstanding mosquito control district under Doug's leadership. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the <br />Board appreciates and recognizes Doug Carlson's 42 years of service to the community <br />and wishes him the very best in his future endeavors. <br />Adopted this 15th day of December, 2020.
