Board of Commissioners SWDD Meeting Minutes - Final April 20, 2021 <br />Recommended Action: Solid Waste Disposal District staff recommends that its Board approve the <br />expansion of the in-house recycling education funding for Fiscal Year 2021/2022, <br />which may include, but not limited to, adding an additional staff member, <br />additional vehicle, additional resources and the removal of the funding to Keep <br />Indian River Beautiful <br />Attachments: Staff Report <br />SWDD Recycling Activities <br />Solid Waste Disposal District (SWDD) Managing Director Himanshu Mehta <br />requested approval to expand SWDD's in-house recycling educational efforts. He <br />noted that recycling rates had dropped, and his department needed an additional <br />staff member and resources to meet their goal of expanding recycling in the County. <br />He referred to staff s memorandum of April 9, 2021, for more information on <br />SWDD's current efforts and a breakdown of the resources that could be added with <br />increased funding. <br />Commissioner Adams received confirmation that an expansion of the plastic <br />recycling program was planned as part of the new Household Hazardous Waste and <br />Recycling Transfer facility being constructed. Chairman Flescher voiced his <br />support of SWDD's recycling plan. Upon question by Vice Chairman O'Bryan, <br />County Administrator Jason Brown advised that SWDD sought the Board's <br />approval of their plans, and did not need to approve specific dollar amounts at this <br />time. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Adams, seconded by Vice Chairman O'Bryan, <br />to approve staffs recommendation.
