RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Indian River County, acting by and through its Board of County Commissioners, is duly authorized by the laws of the State of Florida to acquire, own, develop and maintain public parks; and, WHEREAS, there exists a great need in this County for a public park fronting on the Atlantic Ocean to provide not only public park facilities but to hermit ready access to the Atlantic Ocean by the general public for bathing purposes; and, WHEREAS, the United States of America, acting by and through the Bureau of Land Management of the Department of the Interior is the owner of and has available for acquisition by public bodies such as Indian River County the following described lands, situated in Indian River County, Florida: Township 32 South, Range 40 East, Tallahassee Meridian, Florida, Section 20, Lot 1, the East 10 acres, as shown in plat of survey approved December 26, 1859, except the South 1,000 feet (7.8 acres) containing 2.2 acres, now in Indian River County, Florida; for purchase for recreation purposes as provided by the Recreation Act of the Congress of the United States of America; Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida, acting for and upon behalf of Indian River County, a political subdivision of the State of Florida, that Sherman N. Smith, Jr., its attorney, is herewith authorized and directed to make application to said Bureau of Land Management for purchase by Indian River County of said above described lands In the form required by said Bureau, including paymei of the filing fee and attaching a statcanent to the effect that the proposed use of the lands by said County is as follows: "The proposed use of this land is to first selectively clear and grade the same, mark out, designate and establish parking areas and shell or marl surface the same to hold motor vehicles and then to Intersperse the area with picnic grounds, picnic tables and other such facilities in order that the area may be used as a public park and bathing area.
