RESOLUTION <br />WHEREAS, Indian River County, acting by and through its Board <br />of County Commissioners, is duly authorized by the laws of the State of <br />Florida to acquire, own, develop and maintain public parks; and, <br />WHEREAS, there exists a great need in this County for a public <br />park fronting on the Atlantic Ocean to provide not only public park facilities <br />but to hermit ready access to the Atlantic Ocean by the general public for <br />bathing purposes; and, <br />WHEREAS, the United States of America, acting by and through <br />the Bureau of Land Management of the Department of the Interior is the <br />owner of and has available for acquisition by public bodies such as Indian <br />River County the following described lands, situated in Indian River County, <br />Florida: <br />Township 32 South, Range 40 East, Tallahassee Meridian, <br />Florida, Section 20, Lot 1, the East 10 acres, as shown <br />in plat of survey approved December 26, 1859, except the <br />South 1,000 feet (7.8 acres) containing 2.2 acres, now in <br />Indian River County, Florida; <br />for purchase for recreation purposes as provided by the Recreation Act of <br />the Congress of the United States of America; Now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian <br />River County, Florida, acting for and upon behalf of Indian River County, a <br />political subdivision of the State of Florida, that Sherman N. Smith, Jr., its <br />attorney, is herewith authorized and directed to make application to said <br />Bureau of Land Management for purchase by Indian River County of said <br />above described lands In the form required by said Bureau, including paymei <br />of the filing fee and attaching a statcanent to the effect that the proposed use <br />of the lands by said County is as follows: <br />"The proposed use of this land is to first selectively <br />clear and grade the same, mark out, designate and <br />establish parking areas and shell or marl surface the <br />same to hold motor vehicles and then to Intersperse <br />the area with picnic grounds, picnic tables and other <br />such facilities in order that the area may be used as <br />a public park and bathing area.
