Supporting caregivers, a child's most important resource, is needed expressly for infants and toddlers due to the required adult -child ratios and the 10 -hour day. Additionally, the three centers will maintain the increased intentional language experiences for children through a mentor teacher hired as a result of last year's grant. These efforts benefit the children's future literacy and health. RCMA proposes to maintain the mentor teacher program previously enacted to build staff capacity to deliver quality language experiences in and out of the classroom. The mentor teacher engages staff in intentional conversations that are replicated in the classroom setting. Parent workshops will continue to be provided. The mentor teacher observes and videotapes the classroom environment and provides feedback to help staff and parents increase the quality language experiences for the children. Being born into a low socioeconomic status family does not prevent a child from realizing his or her full potential especially if a parent or caregiver engages in daily and frequent intelligent interaction with the child during the critical first three years of life. The projected number of unduplicated children to be served is one hundred five (105).
