Supporting caregivers, a child's most important resource, is needed expressly for infants <br />and toddlers due to the required adult -child ratios and the 10 -hour day. Additionally, the three <br />centers will maintain the increased intentional language experiences for children through a mentor <br />teacher hired as a result of last year's grant. These efforts benefit the children's future literacy and <br />health. RCMA proposes to maintain the mentor teacher program previously enacted to build staff <br />capacity to deliver quality language experiences in and out of the classroom. The mentor teacher <br />engages staff in intentional conversations that are replicated in the classroom setting. Parent <br />workshops will continue to be provided. The mentor teacher observes and videotapes the <br />classroom environment and provides feedback to help staff and parents increase the quality <br />language experiences for the children. Being born into a low socioeconomic status family does <br />not prevent a child from realizing his or her full potential especially if a parent or caregiver engages <br />in daily and frequent intelligent interaction with the child during the critical first three years of life. <br />The projected number of unduplicated children to be served is one hundred five (105). <br />
