P5 <br />R E S 0 L U T 10 N <br />WHEREAS, State Road 60 is the only cross -state highway <br />o leading from Indian River County to the central and West coast areas of <br />Florida; and, <br />WHEREAS, said state road is the shortest and most direct route <br />from the East to the West coast of Florida; and, <br />WHEREAS, for the past several years during the periods of <br />heavy rainfall, which normally occurs during two or three separate seasons <br />of each year, said State Road 60 becomes impassable because of the waters <br />that drain onto and flood over said road; and, <br />WHEREAS, said State Road 60 has been designated as the only <br />evacuation route in the event of disaster in Indian River County; Now, there- <br />fore, <br />BE IT RE -SOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of <br />Indian River County, Florida, that this Board does herewith call U) the atten- <br />tion of the State Road Department of Florida the facts pertaining to said State <br />Road 60 as hereinbefore outlined and this Board does herewith urge the State <br />Road Department to take whatever actions are necessary in order to insure <br />that State Road 60 will not become impassable in the times of heavy rainfall; <br />and, <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolu- <br />i tion be forwarded to the District Engineer of the State Road Department, <br />Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and that a certified copy thereof be forwarded to <br />the Honorable William Singer, Member of the State Road Department from <br />this District, and to our Representative and Senator. <br />SMITH, DIAMOND 1, HEATH, ATTORNEYS AT LAW, VERO BEACH, FLORIDA <br />
